Member of CNRS Prof. Yves Brechet Awarded Advisory Professor by SJTU

Professor Yves Brechet, member of the French Academician of Science and member of the European Academy of Sciences, was awarded the honourary title of "Advisory Professor" by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) at the SJTU-Paris Tech Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT) on 28th October 2019, where the ceremony took place. Ms. XU Xuemin, Member of the Standing Committee of the SPEIT Party Committee and Vice President, presented him the certificate. Presented by the Chinese Dean of SPEIT Mr. XU Shaoyuan, the ceremony was attended by Secretary of Party General Branch and Vice Dean of SPEIT Mr. LIU Zenglu, the French Dean of SPEIT Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET, and General Manager of Saint-Gobain Shanghai Mr. Grussaute Nghiem Helene, etc.

In order to promote international strategy and facilitate academic development, research and innovation, disciplinary development, academic exchanges and international cooperation, the "Honorary Professor, Advisory Professor" program was launched in early 2019. The honourary academic title will be awarded to world famous experts and scholars abroad to promote further cooperation and exchange worldwide.



In her speech, Ms. XU Xuemin extended her gratitude to Prof. Yves Brechet for his support to SJTU and expressed her confidence in a huge boost to the scientific research and development of SPEIT throughout cooperation with Prof. Yves Brechet.



Prof. Yves Brechet said he felt very privileged to be awarded the honourary title by SJTU and very much confident in school-business cooperation and the cooperation in scientific research in related fields going forward.

 


The ceremony was presented by the Chinese Dean of SPEIT Mr. XU Shaoyuan.

The ceremony was followed by Prof. Yves Brechet's lecture - "From Louis XIV mirrors to materials by design: A scientific day in Saint-Gobain", attended by some teachers and students from SPEIT as well as the School of Materials Science & Engineering and the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of SJTU. 

Prof. Yves Brechet's CV: 

Born in 1961, Prof. Yves Brechet graduated from ?cole Polytechnique and then obtained his PhD and Habilitation at the Technical University of Grenoble INP. He now serves as a member of the French Academician of Science and of the European Academy of Sciences. His research activities are in the field of metallurgy and mechanical calculation of materials. He has been interested in solid state phase transformation, plasticity and fracture. He has published more than 500 SCI papers with over 24,000 citations, and has supervised 78 PhD students. He was awarded the Silver Medal of the French National Centre for Scientific Research in 2009 and the Gay-Lussac Humboldt Research Award in 2011. He has been serving as the "High Commissioner for Atomic Energy" for the CEA from 2012 to 2018, the highest-ranking scientific advisor for the French government in the country's atomic energy field. Since 2011, he has been carrying out multi-level cooperation and exchanges with SJTU, and in 2018 he served as the French project leader of the SJTU-CEA neutron spectrometer cooperation project. And from this year onwards, he has started to serve as the chief scientist for Saint-Gobain worldwide.
