On the morning of October 7th, the Senior International Leaders’ Meeting of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) was held virtually with great success. Themed under “Acting Together in the New Abnormal”, the Conference was attended by members of ARPU who actively took part in discussion and shared their views on higher education cooperation among countries in the Pacific Rim in the post-pandemic era. On behalf of SJTU, Vice President Xu Xuemin was present at the meeting and introduced SJTU’s innovative measures in promoting international cooperation during the pandemic.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, SJTU has been sharing effective anti-pandemic measures and the latest research findings both of the school and the country with its partners through virtual meetings. Despite all the difficulties, SJTU continues to enhance international cooperation with an optimistic attitude and a determination to overcome adversity with joint efforts. From the beginning of the 2020 fall semester, SJTU has deepened partnership ties with many universities and accepted about 300 students who can’t go to study abroad as planned because of the pandemic, by allowing them to attend face-to-face classes at the campus of SJTU. The University is also working to push forward a series of new cooperation mechanism with current and prospective partners.

At the conference, representatives of ARPU also introduced the agenda for the next stage, and reported on the research progress related to UN “2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
