SJTU&NUS Launched Joint Laboratory for Energy and Environmental Sustainability

On December 11, the 2nd Meeting of Shanghai-Singapore Comprehensive Cooperation Council was held via live video-conference. Gong Zheng, Chairman of the Shanghai-Singapore Council on behalf of Shanghai, also Mayor of Shanghai; Lawrence Wong, Chairman of the Shanghai-Singapore Council on behalf of Singapore, Singaporean Minister for Education and Second Minister for Finance attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the SJTU Party Committee attended the meeting and participated in the launching ceremony of the "International Joint Laboratory for Energy and Environmental Sustainability of Megacities" to be jointly established by SJTU and NUS.

 

At the meeting, Shanghai and Singapore jointly announced the fruits of their cooperation. As the university representative, Mr.Yang Zhenbin, together with Mr. Zhang Quan, director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, jointly pressed the launch button of the project. In Singapore, more than 4,000 kilometers away, the leaders of the National Research Foundation of Singapore and Tan Eng Chye, President of the National University of Singapore pressed the start button simultaneously. This marks that the international joint laboratories constructed by SJTU and NUS have entered a new stage, and that the in-depth strategic scientific research cooperation between the two universities and the two places has scaled new heights.

The "International Joint Laboratory for Energy and Environmental Sustainability of Megacities" and related research are supported by the National Research Foundation of Singapore and the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. The Laboratory is based on the "Energy and Environmental Sustainability for Megacities (E2S2)" project that has been in place for 9 years between the two universities, and aims to address the challenges and key issues involved in achieving sustainable development of energy and environment in megacities.
