President Zhang Jie Attended the 4th Chinese-Foreign University Presidents Forum
From May 2nd to May 4th, President Zhang Jie attended the 4th Chinese-Foreign University Presidents Forum held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province and gave a lecture entitled “ ‘Three in One’ Training Mode to Nurture Innovative Talents” in which he systematically illustrated the idea and practice of SJTU in nurturing innovative talents with strong leadership. In the Forum, President Zhang Jie, as one of the four representatives of Chinese universities, was cordially received by Liu Yandong, member of State Council and they had breakfast together. President Zhang Jie has been invited by the column of ETV called “Look at Stars” to two exclusive interviews with President Richard Levin of Yale University and President Andrew Hamilton of Oxford University to talk about the spirit of a university and university management strategy as well as liberal education and training of innovative talents. Zhang has met with Craig Mundie, Microsoft’s Chief Officer of Research and Strategy, President Richard Brodhead of Duke University, and President of Kyoto University to have a deep discussion about measures and visions to promote mutual cooperation and communication.
Introduction of Background
The Ministry of Education initiated the Chinese-Foreign University Presidents Forum in 2002 with the main purport of “Enlightenments for Leaders, Visions for Universities”. Till now, the forum has been successfully held four times, which proves to be an important platform for presidents of Chinese universities to show the achievements in China’s higher education reform and communicate with presidents of foreign universities. The motif of this forum is to “Improve the Quality of Talents in Universities”.

Attending the forum are more than 120 presidents or deans from the Mainland of China, Hong Kong, and Macao, about 30 presidents from prestigious universities in America, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Russia and other countries, some senior managers of famous international enterprises as well as some representatives of foreign consulates.
