On the afternoon of May 24, Vice President Zhang Wenjun met with the delegation led by Consul General of the Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai Mr. Bjørn Blokhus. Vice President Zhang warmly welcomed the visit of Consul General Mr. Bjørn Blokhus and introduced him the long history and rapid development of SJTU. Mr. Zhang pointed out that SJTU took internationalization as a development strategy and had established cooperation with many world-famous universities including the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He believed that the visit of Mr. Bjørn Blokhus would promote the cooperation and exchange between SJTU and Norway's universities and research institutions.

Mr. Bjørn Blokhus said he was pleased to visit SJTU, a top university in China which is also well-known in the world. The best university in science and engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, regards SJTU as the major partner in China. Mr. Bjørn Blokhus also indicated that Norway was the global leader in energy, naval architecture, ocean engineering and especially deep ocean technology while SJTU also had strong technical strength in the above fields, which meant enormous potentials for cooperation between the two parties.

After the meeting, Mr. Bjørn Blokhus visited the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering and attended the lecture given by the famous Norwegian architect Robert Greenwood to teachers and students of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, SJTU.
