From July 10 to 15, President Zhang Jie led an SJTU delegation to visit several prestigious universities and research institutes in Germany, and met with talents studying there.

The delegation visited Technische Universitat Munchen (TUM), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LUM), RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (Jülich Research Centre), Universität Heidelberg, Universität Karlsruhe, the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and other institutes. Friendly and fruitful talks were conducted between leaders and experts concerned, with understanding and cooperation willingness deepened. The results of the visit mainly include inter-university cooperation agreements with TUM and RWTH Aachen, supplemental scientific cooperation agreement with Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, comprehensive cooperation intention in arts, sciences and medicine with the Rector of Universität Heidelberg, and cooperation in engineering and materials with Universität Karlsruhe.

During the visit in Germany, President Zhang Jie led the delegation to attend the China Day event of the 625th anniversary celebration of Universität Heidelberg and delivered a speech. President Zhang Jie also attended the council meeting of Confucius Institute at the University of Heidelberg, co-built by SJTU and the University of Heidelberg, which laid a sound foundation for the future development of the Institute.

President Zhang Jie also met with altogether over 200 Chinese scholars and students and briefed them on the pole position of China's development, SJTU's running philosophy, strategic planning and future development vision. He encouraged them to grasp the chance to join China's rapid advancement and SJTU's building into a world-class university. At each A&Q section, President Zhang Jie patiently answered each question raised.

During this visit to Germany, the delegation was warmly received and assisted by Consulate-general of People's Republic China in Munchen and in Frankfurt.

Accompanying with President Zhang were leaders from School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Humanities and Division of International Exchange and Cooperation.
