On October 2 (October 1 in San Francisco), 2011, the  SJTU Foundation of Amercia Annual Meeting 2011 and SJTU North America Alumni Summit were held in Santa Clara, San Francisco. The theme of this meeting was "be grateful for the favors received and create a splendid future together". SJTU President Zhang Jie attended and delivered a keynote speech. Consul general of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in San Francisco, Gao Zhansheng, the 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor, the honorary trustee and honorary doctorate of SJTU, Elaine L. Chao, the honorary chairman of SJTU North America Alumni, Chairman of Foremost Group, SJTU alumnus of class of 1944 and honorary trustee of SJTU, James S.C. Chao and other guests, altogether over 400 alumni from all around the world, attended the meeting. The Summit was hosted by SJTU Alumni Association of Silicon Valley (SJTU-SV). SJTU Vice President Xu Fei hosted the opening ceremony.
