On the afternoon of November 12, the signing ceremony for the intercollegiate cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and University of California, Berkeley was convened at the Peninsula Shanghai. On behalf of two universities, President Zhang Jie and Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau jointly signed Memorandum of Cooperation and held cordial talks afterwards, present at the ceremony also including Xu Xuemin, President Assistant and Dean of Med-X Research Institute , Zhang Weimin, Director at Division of International Cooperation & Exchange and others.

President Zhang Jie extended a warm welcome to President Robert. During the ceremony, the two sides had discussions on research cooperation and talent cultivation, and reached an agreement on the transformation of cooperation in the fields of medicine, law and business. The signing of the agreement marks the future prospects for further cooperation and development, on the basis of similar interests and specialties.

According to the agreement, the two universities will broaden cooperation in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, encourage the professor and researcher exchange visits, organize academic seminars and explore the possibilities for further research cooperation.
