Vice President Cai Wei Meets with Delegation from University of Adelaide
On May 9, SJTU Vice President Cai Wei met with the visiting delegation from University of Adelaide, Australia on Minhang Campus. The delegation member included Michael Brooks, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research), Kent Anderson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), David Adelson, Head of School of Molecular & Biomedical Science, and Ms Sandy McConachy, Director of East Asia Strategy.
Vice President Cai Wei welcomed the visiting guests and held friendly talks with Vice-chancellors of University of Adelaide. Vice-Chancellor Brooks said, University of Adelaide attaches great importance to the Adelaide-SJTU partnership and is more than willing to conduct cooperation with SJTU. The first-class faculty and research platforms of the two universities lay the foundation for the future cooperation in broader fields.
Vice President Cai Wei responded to Vice-Chancellor Brooks with greetings and appreciation. He said, SJTU takes the substantive cooperation in superior disciplines with world-class universities very seriously. He hoped both sides could enhance communication and deepen cooperation based on the existing cooperation between biomedical schools of two universities, and work together to train high-caliber technological innovation talents.
After the meeting, Vice President Cai Wei and Vice-Chancellor Brooks signed the cooperation agreement on dual master degrees in biotechnology. That day, the delegation also had a face-to-face communication with SJTU students who are to study in Australia under the exchange program and answered their questions concerning the project filing. Afterwards, they visited School of Environmental Science and Engineering and listened to the introduction of environmental monitoring and assessment research by Prof. Zhuang Huisheng and his PhD candidates.
That afternoon, led by Vice President Cai Wei, the delegation also visited Shanghai Institute for Pediatric Research and its Molecular Biology Laboratory, Genetic Sample Laboratory, the large bioband. The delegation expressed the wish to conduct cooperation and exchange in this field.
University of Adelaide is located in the south of Australia and is among top Australian universities since its founding in 1874. Biological sciences, environmental sciences and social sciences are its leading disciplines. After nearly one-year discussions and preparation, the signing of the agreement bears great significance in promoting high-level talent cultivation and research cooperation in biosciences between the two universities.
