Prof. Klaus Müllen Awarded SJTU Honorary Doctorate Degree

On Sept. 29 Afternoon, Dr. Klaus Müllen, Professor of Max Planck Society(Germany) Institute for Polymer Research and Chairman of German Chemical Society, was awarded SJTU honorary doctorate degree and appointed as special counselor to the president on Minhang Campus.

SJTU President Zhang Jie granted him the certificate and SJTU badge. 

Present were Prof. Chi Lifeng of Universität Münster, Prof. Vincenzo Palermo, Dean of the National Research Council (Italy), Zsolt Tovari, Project leader of Max Planck Society(Germany) European Institute for Polymer Research, SJTU Vice Presidents Su Ming and Huang Zhen, CAS Academician Jiang Ming from Fu Dan University, CAS Academician Tian He from ECUST, CAS Academician Prof. Yan Deyue from SJTU School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

On behalf of SJTU, President Zhang expressed warm congratulations towards Dr. Müllen. Zhang introduced that Dr. Müllen is the international notable Chemist in Organic Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry and an excellent educator who has cultivated many talents in fields of chemistry, polymer chemistry and material in China.

Zhang also hoped that with the help and support from Dr Müllen, SJTU academic exchange, research cooperation as well as chemical engineering and material will achieve a faster and better development.

Huang Zhen read the agreement to award Dr. Müllen the honorary doctorate degree from Academic Degree Commission of the State Council. The announcement was followed by eulogies to Dr. Müllen from student representative.

In the address, Dr. Müllen expressed his great honor to accept such conferment. He would like to make contributions to SJTU's development with his effort.

After the ceremony, Dr. Müllen gave a lecture called "From polymer semiconductor to Graphene". In the discussion later Dr. Müllen answered questions from students.
