President Zhang Jie and His Delegation Visit Three American Universities

From December 3 to 7, 2012, President Zhang Jie led an SJTU delegation to visit the US. The delegation visited Yale University, Northwestern University and University of Southern California (USC), and signed cooperation agreement with Yale and USC.

Zhang Jie and his delegation received a warm welcome from faculties of Yale University from December 3 to 4. Zhang Jie, on behalf of SJTU, signed the intercollegiate cooperation framework agreement with Richard C. Levin, the current president of Yale University, hoping to carry out deeper cooperation and exchanges in the fields of public health and general education.

On December 5, Zhang Jie and his delegation visited Northwestern University. Morton Schapiro, President of Northwest University, met with the delegation. SJTU and Northwestern University have maintained frequent mutual visits in the past two years, especially in the in-depth cooperation in materials engineering and mechanical engineering. The visit has laid a good foundation for further cooperation in law, management and other fields.

On December 7, Zhang Jie and his delegation visited USC and met with Elizabeth Garrett, Provost of USC. They signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of cultural industries.

During the visit in the United States, Zhang Jie also made ​​a special trip to visit SJTU famous alumna Miss Lu Yan, and met with other alumni, local Chinese students and scholars in Los Angeles and Chicago respectively. He made speeches and introduced the development of SJTU in recent years.
