SJTU 2013 Postgraduate Commencement Ceremony Held
On the afternoon of March 23, "Shanghai Jiao Tong University Graduation and Commencement Ceremony for Postgraduates 2013" was grandly held on Minhang Campus. Nearly 3700 graduate students bid farewell to his alma mater, opening a new career and life journey to all sides of the motherland.
SJTU Chairperson Ma Dexiu, President Zhang Jie, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Zhu Jian, Executive Vice President Lin Zhongqin, Huang Zhen, Mei Hong attended the ceremony. Ma Dexiu, Zhang Jie, Lin Zhongqin, Huang Zhen, Mei Hong, Dean of School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering Yang Jianmin, Executive Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering Xi Lifeng, Dean of School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering Mao Junfa, Executive Vice Dean of Antai College of Economics and Management Li Yuan, Executive Vice Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Chen Jiesheng, Dean of School of Agriculture and Biology Yu Liangli, Vice Dean of KuGuan Law School Wang Xianlin awarded the degree certificates to students. Ceremony was hosted by Zhu Jian.
President of Université de Montréal (Canada) Guy Breton and his wife, Vice President Helene David and 7 Deans and Professors from Université de Montréal, Deputy Consul General of the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai Qiu Enrui and other distinguished guests came to SJTU and witnessed the sacred moment.
Ceremony opened with the majestic national anthem.
President Zhang Jie delivered a speech with the title of 'Stick to the truth, the pursuit of Science'. (the whole speech)
Huang Zhen announced 2013 list of graduates who would go to the central and western regions of China, working in important industry, grass-roots unit or self-employment.
Teacher representatives, experts of "Thousand Talents'Program" from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, Professor of School of Mechanical Engineering Zhang Junliang delivered wishes, hoping students can remember the responsibilities and seek truth from facts with a down-to-earth spirit.
The graduate representatives, Zheng Jun from School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering said that he will keep in mind the motto of "Gratitude and Responsibilities", standing on solid ground and moving forward with a grateful heart.
The ceremony of conferring honorary doctoral degree of Guy Breton was also held. Huang Zhen announced the approval document of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Zhang Jie conferred an honorary doctor's degree certificate to Guy Breton. Ma Dexiu gave present to him.
For students, graduation is one of the most sacred moments in their life. They went on the stage, and then, took the degree certificate from the school leaders and teachers with great excitement.
Before the ceremony, Ma Dexiu, Zhang Jie, Zhu Jian, lin Zhongqin, Huang Zhen, Mei Hong met with the graduate representatives who would go to work in the central and western region in China, encouraging them to make their own contributions in each post.
It is reported that SJTU have launched a series of graduate activities featuring yearning and gratitude, youth and passion, mission and responsibility, courage and dreams.
