President Zhang Jie Received Honorary Doctorate Degree from University of Rochester
On the morning of May 19 American local time, SJTU President Zhang Jie was awarded an Honary Doctorate Degree of Science from University of Rochester (UR), which made him the first Chinese to receive this great honor in UR's history of over 160 years.

Founded in 1850, UR is one of the most celebrated universities in the United States. It has eight Nobel Prize winners among its faculties and alumni. UR consistently ranks among the leading universities nationwide in music, optics, physics and other research. The Honorary Doctorate Degree of Science this year was also conferred on Doc. Susan Hockfield,'73 alumna, former MIT President and member of National Academy of Sciences.
President Zhang Jie received the Honorary Doctorate Degree of Science from UR President Joel Seligman.

On the afternoon of May 19, President Zhang Jie delivered an English speech in UR.
On the evening of May 19, invited by UR Provost Prof. Peter Lennie, President Zhang Jie attended the evening banquet in the mansion of the provost, accompanied by Yu Liangli, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Biology; Li Weidong, researcher in Bio-X center.
