President of University of Washington Michael Young Visited SJTU
On the morning of November 1, President of University of Washington Michael Young and his group visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University. SJTU President Zhang Jie met with the guests. Zhang Jie pointed out that internationalization is an important development strategic for SJTU and he expected further cooperations with University of Washington. Michael Young said that Chinese students accounted for more than half of total international students, he expected the cooperation as well. After the discussion, agreements were reached to the matters as joint scientific research, cultural exchange, business cooperation and other fields.
Relevant personnel from School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Systems Biomedicine Research Center, Department of Physics & Astronomy , Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, attended the meeting.
Since 1974, University of Washington has accepted the maximum federal funding for public universities over the United State each year. Rich research funding has contributed to many remarkable research achievements. For a long time, its total research expenditures have maintained the "world top three" level together with the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University. University of Washington owns the world's top faculties, over 11 Nobel Prize winners and 12 Pulitzer Prize winners from alumni and professors of University of Washington. Among current professors, there are 9 Nobel Prize winners, 162 U.S. advanced scientific committee, 241 U.S. academicians.
