President of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Visited SJTU
On the morning of 12, December, SJTU President Zhang Jie met with Phyllis Wise, President of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and her team. President Wise expressed her wish that SJTU would become an important strategic partner with UIUC since the two universities are equivalent in terms of academic achievements and status. President Zhang Jie also stated SJTU's wish to carry out comprehensive cooperation with UIUC. The two sides discussed the possibility of promoting cooperation in research and education, and agreed on large-scale faculty-to-faculty cooperation in fields such as agronomy, engineering, business and library.
Chen Jin, SJTU Library Curator; Guo Liang, Deputy Director of Division of International Cooperation and Exchange; Feng Yan, Vice Director of SJTU Institute of Science and Research and other relevant personnel took part in the meeting.
Founded in 1867 and located 140 miles south of Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is famous for its strongest subjects such as engineering, physics, chemistry, psychology and mass communication. Besides, the university is doing excellently in education, business, humanities and arts, as well as law. The library collection of the university ranked the first among the world's public universities and the third among all the universities around the world.
