UJ Vice-Chancellor and Principal Visited SJTU

On the morning of July 10, 2014, SJTU Vice President Huang Zhen met with Prof. Ihron Rensburg, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of University of Johannesburg (UJ), and his delegation. The delegation included Tinyiko Maluleke, UJ Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of international cooperation, Dr. Pinkie Mekgwe, head of UJ Internalization Office, Lionel Posthumus, Acting Dean of Department of African Languages, Charles Mbohwa, Vice Dean of Department of Engineering and Civil Environment, and Denisha Reddy, Political Consul, Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Shanghai.

Vice President Huang Zhen, on behalf of SJTU, extended a warm welcome.

Vice-Chancellor Rensburg briefed the development history and the latest development of UJ. He mentioned that UJ has recently set up a crossdisciplinary advance institute of science and society and UJ hopes that SJTU would send some teachers to participate in their research.

Professors of both sides had a heated discussion over the cooperation possibilities in the fields of new energy, energy conservation and emission reduction, indoor air pollution control, humanity and society.

The UJ Delegation visited Sino-Italian Green Energy Lab, School of Mechnical Engineering, and Wireless Communication Lab, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering.

Vice Dean Liu Hua, Prof. Ma Wenjun, School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, Vice Dean Liu Jialin, School of Humanities, Prof. Chen Feng, School of Mechanical Engineering, Deputy Director Guo Liang, Division of International Cooperation and Exchange also attended the meeting.

University of Johannesbury, established in 2005 and formed by the merger of three universities, was one of the biggest and best-known universities in South Africa.
