Teachers and Students Staying at SJTU Celebrated the Chinese New Year of Goat

On the evening of February 16, First Canteen and the Moslem Restaurant on the Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong Universitygathered a lively group. Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China of Health Education; Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Gao Deyi; SJTU Chairperson of the University Council Jiang Sixian; President Zhang Jie and University leaderships, teaching staffs of various departments and schools had New Year's Eve dinner together with more than 400 students staying at school during vacation, celebrating the Spring Festival. This year, SJTU, sticking to the two key words, "Warm and Love", prepared the New Year's Eve dinner in warm atmosphere and specially invited the parents of 7 students staying at school for reunion.

Gao Deyi delivered the greetings and blessings of New Year to all the teachers and students staying at school.

Jiang Sixian, representing SJTU and all teaching staffs, also delivered his blessings to all the students. He said, although students cannot reunite with their family, it can also be considered a special reunion to celebrate the Spring Festival with so many good teachers and helpful friends in SJTU.

Zhang Jie made an ardent toast. He said, the big family of SJTU would surely make students feel at home though they can't celebrate the Festival at their home.

The singing and dancing won a burst of applause. String Quartet, Voice of SJTU, a joint performance of the flute and calligraphy brought the party to new climax from time to time.

SJTU Food Service Center prepared appetizing New Year's Eve dinner. The specially design menu integrated traditional Chinese culture with SJTU elements; Liu Luanhong, a member of the board of trustees of SJTU, and his wife donated 30,000 RMB for the New Year's Eve dinner gifts. Students could draw a lottery from these gifts, which also reflected the feature of the traditional culture, enhancing the festival atmosphere.

Every year, about 300 students cannot make it home for long distance or scientific research or internship. Together with Spring Airline, SJTU carried out "Decade in Spring, Miles to SJTU" activity, to take parents to STJU during the Spring Festival. Spring Airlines provided the parents a round-ticket to Shanghai, and SJTU offered the parents dormitory and living goods so that the parents could come to Shanghai to company their children for the New Year. This year, 13 parents of 7 students came to SJTU for reunion.
