The 8th International Conference on Vibration Engineering Held in Shanghai
August 02, 2021
From July 23 to July 26, the 8th International Conference on Vibration Engineering (ICVE' 2021) was successfully held in Shanghai. Due to the pandemic, this event was organized in both live and virtual forms. The ICVE' 2021, which has been selected into the Guidebook of Important Conferences by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, is under the guidance of Chinese Society for Vibration Society, National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The organizing institutions of ICVE' 2021 include Shanghai Jiao Tong University, State Key Laboratory of Mechanical System and Vibration, Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology and Shanghai Institute of Aerospace System Engineering. The conference president is Professor Haiyan Hu from Beijing Institute of Technology, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the president of Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering. Professor Guang Meng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the conference executive president, hosted the opening ceremony.
ICVE' 2021 covered the important topics in vibration engineering, including structural dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, multi-body dynamics, spaceflight dynamics and control, rotor dynamics, random dynamics, metamaterials and others. This conference received a total number of 529 papers spanning over 24 technical sessions, and more than 70 papers were contributed by international scholars. There are eight renowned professors delivering the plenary speeches, including four virtual international speeches. More than five hundred scholars from all over the country gathered in Shanghai and shared their new ideas on vibration engineering. It significantly strengthened the academic exchange and cooperation in the theory, experiment and application aspects of vibration engineering.
Professor Haiyan Hu delivered a welcome speech and looked back at the history of ICVE. He pointed out that ICVE' 2021 had advanced with the times by embracing new concepts such as metamaterials and acoustics black holes. He addressed that young scholars might prefer to use new methods such as artificial intelligence to solve new problems, whilst he also hope young scholars focus on new challenges in practical engineering.
The ICVE' 2021 organizing committee invited eight world-renowned professors as plenary speakers. They are Professor Earl H. Dowell from Duke University, member of the American Academy of Engineering, Professor Jie Li from Tongji University, the president of IASSAR, Professor Pol D. Spanos from Rice University, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Engineering, Professor Quan Wang from Shantou University, a member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, Professor B. Balachandran from University of Maryland, Professor Shiyi Chen from Southern University of Science and Technology, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Jinhao Qiu from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Professor Hoon Sohn from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
ICVE' 2021 encouraged the collision of new ideas and will surely boost the development of vibration engineering to a new stage.
