On December 1-2, 2011, the 1st China-Japan Academic Symposium on Nuclear Fuel Cycle was held in Gaotian Hall of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Mechanical Engineering. The Symposium was co-sponsored by SJTU School of Nuclear Science and Engineering and Tokyo Institute of Technology. Zhang Jie, President of SJTU, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

The Symposium aimed to provide a stage for academic exchanges and cooperation between experts in Nuclear Fuel Cycle from both China and Japan, with the hope to improve the level of academic study and education, and promote communication and cooperation on talents cultivation in related areas.

About 100 representatives registered at the Symposium. The foreign representatives mainly came from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tohoku University, Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, US. The domestic representatives mainly came from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Sichuan University, China Institute of Atomic Energy and Chinese Academy of Sciences. More than 40 reports were delivered to exchange the latest scientific results.

Experts from home and abroad paid a high compliment to the Symposium. The organizing committee promised to develop the Symposium into a distinguished meeting with international reputation. The 2nd Symposium will be held at Tokyo Institute of Technology in November, 2012.
