SJTU President Zhang Jie met with the delegation led by Dr. Evgenios-Dimitrios Kalpyris, Consul General of Greece in Shanghai on February 13, Minhang Campus. He welcomed the visiting of Dr. Kalpyris and briefed him on SJTU development.

Zhang Jie said the deep-rooted Greek cultural heritage gave birth to numerous well-known humanities scholars and philosophers. SJTU attaches great importance to the contact with the institutions of higher learning and research institutions of Greece. In recent years, it has introduced scholars of Greek culture into Institute of Advanced Study in European Study, School of Humanities to create the multicultural campus. And he believed new breakthroughs would be made in culture, education and exchange cooperation with the positive efforts of Consul General Kalpyris.

Dr. Kalpyris said China and Greece, two countries with long history of civilization, shared a lot in common, which laid solid foundation for cooperation. Confucius, the founder of the Ru School (Confucianism) of China, is influential in Greece. He hoped cooperation with SJTU on humanities and philosophy could provide platforms for understanding and exchange, so the Greek people would have more intuitive understanding and perception of Chinese history and culture.
