Opening Ceremony of “Center for Israel Studies” Held

On the afternoon of Sept. 16, 2013, opening ceremony of "Center for Israel Studies"& Jewish People in Shanghai Photography Exhibition was grandly held in new library on SJTU minhang campus. After SJTU President Zhang Jie and President of Tel Aviv University Joseph Klafter signed the agreement of cooperation and co-construction of the Center, they jointly inaugurated the Center.

Israeli ambassador to China Matan Vilnai and Consul General in Shanghai Shalom Cohen attended the ceremony. They witnessed the establishment of the Center and watched the photography exhibition. Zhang Junhua, a professor from School of International and Public Affairs as well as Director of Center for Israel Studies presided over the ceremony.

President Zhang Jie addressed the ceremony. On behalf of SJTU teachers and students, he expressed warm welcome to Israeli guests.

Klafter said that he was very glad to see the cooperation between TAU and SJTU, one of the most famous and time-honoured universities in China. He hoped the cooperation could be extended into teaching and scientific research. Vilnai expressed warm congratulations to the establishment of Center for Israel Studies.

President Klafter was invited to Presidents Forum, making a report "How We Keep TAU at the Forefront of Innovation".
