SJTU Bulgarian Centre Established
Shanghai Jiao Tong University officially inaugurated the establishment of its Bulgarian Centre on January 20, 2016. Prof. Dimitar Grekov, President of Agricultural University of Plovdiv and former Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dimitar Abadjiev, Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Shanghai, Angelov Strahil Chavdarov, Congressman of Bulgaria and Spokesperson of Bulgarian Socialist Party, Ninov Stanimir Petrov, Secretary-General of Bulgaria-China's Silk Road Fund Committee and Mr. Sun Yangyang, Vice General Manager of DCC (Delegations of German Industry and Commerce) Shanghai Office paid a visit to SJTU. Prof. Huang Zhen, Vice President of SJTU, Mr. Guo Liang, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Prof.Zhou Pei, Dean of School of Agriculture and Biology (SAB), Ms. Qi Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of SAB and Prof. Che Shengquan, Deputy Dean of SAB participated in the talks.
Vice President Huang Zhen and President Dimitar Grekov jointly inaugurated the Bulgarian Centre. The Centre aims at intensifying the cultural and educational cooperation and exchange between China and Bulgaria, agriculture-centered and environment-friendly cooperation of technological achievements, as well as promoting technical training and authentication of EU's agricultural production standards.
President Zhang Jie and President Dimitar Grekov signed the contract of cooperation between the two universities. The two parties will work together on educational exchange, including students and faculties exchange programs, scientific research cooperation and joint development of agricultural base.
The Republic of Bulgaria is the bridgehead of China's One Belt and One Road Strategy, which aims at developing the strategic cooperation with 16 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. SJTU School of Agriculture and Biology always regard Bulgaria as an important partner in agricultural cooperation. The establishment of SJTU Bulgarian Centre will provide huge support for the cooperation in agriculture, health, culture and art between the two countries.
