SJTU and SUTCM joint established Global Research Center

On May 16, 2010, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish SJTU-SUTCM Global Research Center Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture and Creativity. Huang Zhen, vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xu Jianguang, President of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chen Hongzhuan, vice president, Shu Jing, Dean of academic affairs department, Li Gan, curator of Museum of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhan Renzuo, Professor Zhou Bin, Faculty of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other leaders and guests joined the ceremony. Zhang Weimin, Secretary and President of the general Party branch of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry received the visiting guests with great warmth.

Zhang Weimin presided over the signing ceremony. He first expressed sincere welcome to the leaders and guests, and briefly introduced the cooperation background of the new MFA (Master of Art Management) of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry. Zhang Weimin believed that the cooperation between the two universities will provide a broad platform to promote the integration of traditional Chinese medicine and cultural creative industries. It is expected that through this joint initiative, a number of creative products and cultural boutiques featuring traditional Chinese medicine culture can be developed. It is also expected that talents mastering traditional Chinese medicine, culture and innovation can be cultivated.

Huang Zhen delivered a speech at the signing ceremony in which, he talked about long-term cooperative relationship between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Huang Zhen expressed his conviction that building on the strength of medical engineering and medical science of both universities, this joint initiative will assuredly contribute to the research in the field and development of traditional Chinese medicine cultural and creative talents, and will promote the traditional Chinese medicine culture around the world.

Xu Jianguang affirmed the far-reaching influence and positive effect of the cooperation between the two schools on students' learning and development. Xu Jiangguang expressed his expectation that this joint initiative can open a new chapter of cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He expects this cooperation can further the research and practice of traditional Chinese medicine cultural innovation.This cooperation will lead to a high-level cultural innovation product exhibition center and a tourism and culture hub featuring traditional Chinese medicine characteristics. Assuredly, this cooperation will provide a broader platform for the development of traditional Chinese medicine.

Huang Zhen and Chen Hongzhuan jointly signed the cooperation agreement between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and inaugurated SJTU-SUTCM Global Research Center Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture and Creativity.

After the inauguration ceremony, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine exchanged gifts. Zhan Renzuo, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, painted a Chinese painting featuring "Elegance and Mutual Understanding" and presented to Xu Jianguang. Xu Jianguang, on behalf of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, presented Huang Zhen a traditional acupuncture bronze man model of traditional Chinese medicine as a returning favor.

Zhang Weimin accompanied the guests and visited the innovation education experiment center, the newly built intelligent music and film and television sound effect experiment center, the special exhibition of Chinese character culture of the Chinese character Museum, and the newly listed Global Research Center of Chinese medicine culture and creativity of Shanghai Jiao Tong University at USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine will also hold a inauguration ceremony in the Shanghai Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and carry out scientific research and practice activities in the museum, such as cultural and creative research forum, cultural and creative product research, so as to effectively promote the research of traditional Chinese medicine culture and creativity, and contribute to the global communication of traditional Chinese medicine culture and creativity.
